Pinot Grigio
Pinot Grigio is a natural mutation of the Pinot Noir grape (also known as Pinot Gris in France). The grape clusters grow in pine cone shapes. It has been known since the Middle Ages as it travelled from Burgundy to Switzerland in the 1300’s. The color varies from a pale violet to a gray color (where it gets its name of “Gris”). It has flavors of lemon, green apples and notes of honeysuckle. In Lombardy, Italy, it is often mass produced as a table wine. Whereas in Alsace, France it has the rain shadow effect of the Alps, which allows for lower production, higher acidity and fruitier aromas.
