Petite Sirah
Petite Sirah (also known as Durif, named after its discoverer in 1880), is the offspring of Syrah and Peloursin, which happened likely when one bee visited the flowers of both grapes. Its name is reflective of the very small berry size. Although it originated in France, it is better known in hot climates of Southern California and Australia’s Rutherglen in Victoria, as well as in Israel. A new group called P.S. I Love You is bringing attention to the variety. P.S. is known for having a full body and inky with high tannins and acidity, which gives it excellent aging potential. Petite Sirah has flavors of blackberry, plum, blueberry, licorice, and black pepper. When aged in toasted French Oak notes of chocolate come through.
