MALVASIA BIANCA
Malvasia Bianca is ancient grape originated in Crete, Greece but known for being produced on the Island of Madeira for making Sweet Malmsey and fortified Madeira wine, enjoyed by the American colonialists. The name “Malvasia” probably comes from Monemvasia, a medieval and early Renaissance Byzantine fortress in a port city, known in Italian as “Malvasia”. Malvasia and Trebbiano grapes can be dried to make a sweet Vin Santo, a religious sacramental wine. When it is made dry it has high acidity and is extraordinarily aromatic with floral perfume of jasmine and Honeysuckle. The flavors are a medley of lychee fruit, lemon and guava with a cardamom note.
