Loureira
Loureira is a grape from the Iberian Peninsula growing in Spain and Portugal. Its name comes from the word laurel, having a bay leaf aroma it is known for and often blended in Vinho Verde and White Riojas. Although it only dates back to the 1800’s, its DNA indicates it is a descendant of extremely old possibly extinct grapes. It has aromas of orange, lime and acacia blossoms with high acidity and low alcohol. When grown closer to the ocean, it exhibits salinity notes. Loureira is prone to premature oxidation. When carbon dioxide is used in bottling, it produces a slight spritz.
