Grenache Blanc
Grenache Blanc is a mutation of the Grenache Blanc grape (much like Pinot Grigio is a mutation of the Pinot Noir grape) and originated in the Rioja Spain region but is most popular in the Rhone region. It has high alcohol, low acidity with citrus and herbaceous notes. In many red Rhone blends, 10% of Grenache Blanc is permitted to add aromas. It has straw color and is very malleable allowing for malolactic fermentation or oak. It’s resistant to drought and wind. Diurnal range of temperatures allow for more acidity. With Honeysuckle on the nose, the flavors include green pear, apricot, lime zest and brioche with oak aging.
